Once the estimated price is approved, a contract is printed and signed by the homeowner and by P. L. Johnson Construction. It contains the following:

B. A precise description of all work to be completed by the PLJC, Inc. and subcontractors, and a description of all materials that are to be installed.
C. The total cost of the job, including all materials, labor, and fees.
D. A schedule of payments that you will make to P. L. Johnson Construction, Inc. Most small contracts stipulate a 1/3 up front, 1/3 in the middle of the job and 1/3 at the end of completion. On larger projects there are more payment.
E. A work schedule with calendar dates specified for the completion of each stage of the project. The schedule includes an allowance for materials cost.
F. A "right of recision" that allows the homeowner to back out of the contract within 72 hours of signing.
G. A certificate of insurance that guarantees that PLJC, Inc. has the appropriate insurance.
H. A two-year warranty and a six month follow up on all work.
I. A description of change-order procedures stating what will happen if you decide to make alterations to the plans or specifications after the contract has been signed. The description includes a fee structure for change requests.
